January 2025 has so far brought a mix of windy days, snow and ice followed by fog steadily creeping up towards the Clent Hills, obscuring the well loved views. Occasionally the sun shone encouraging us to get moving again. Before we move on to news of our meetings and events for this year let us exercise our brains with a little bit of quizzing to get ourselves in good shape for our first meeting…..
- In which country did the Olympic Games originally begin? (Too easy)
- Where did the modern version of the Olympic games begin?
a. country? b. exact place? - Whose bright idea was it to restart the games?
Come along to Clent Parish Hall on Thursday 20th March at 2pm and find answers to these questions and much more. We are lucky to have Brian Robinson as our speaker. Brian knows his way around the world of sport and will guide us through this Half Hidden History of the Olympic Games.
On Thursday 15th May at 8pm we can enjoy an evening with Ray Sturday – Remember the Swinging Sixties- Some of us may well remember those times, for others (young folks) what a good chance to discover an exciting period of modern history.
On Thursday 18th September at 8pm- Paul Harding will take us to the world – Below Stairs.
On Thursday 20th November at 2pm we look forward to hearing a talk which takes a historic look at life in the Police Force. (More details to follow)

A summer date for the diary.
SATURDAY 14TH JUNE – 9-6PM LOCAL HISTORY FAYRE, BELBROUGHTON CHURCH HALL.
Clent History Society will be taking part in this event along with Hagley, Belbroughton, Blakedown, Romsley and Chaddesly Corbett, history groups. The 2024 History Fayre which showcased all of these local societies took place in Clent and was such a success that we all felt keen to continue this year. Bebroughton Church Hall is in itself an interesting historic venue. There will be lots to discover about the area and the villages along this northern edge of Worcestershire.
More details to follow.
