Hopefully Clent History Society meetings will be restarting very soon in Clent Parish Hall.

Over the last year we have enjoyed being part of the Zoom meetings put on by Belbroughton and Chaddesley History Societies. Some interesting talks were presented and it was good to see many familiar faces on screen as people logged in and out of the meetings. However to actually meet in our usual setting is something we all look forward to.

On Thursday 16th Sept.2021 (from 7.30pm for 8pm ) Mary Bodfish is our speaker.

THE EARLY YEARS AT SOHO

Mary’s talk will cover the early days of the Soho Foundry in Birmingham , a  foundry which played such an important role in getting Britain’s industrial revolution moving. Bolton and Watt made their steam engines there. Mary, an excellent speaker, will explore the how and why of the men who set up Soho Foundry , and we are fortunate to be welcoming her once more to Clent History Society.

On Thursday 25th Nov 2021 (from 7.30 for 8pm )  Paul Harding , will present.

DISCOVER HISTORY: 1920’S CHRISTMAS.

It’s too long since we last had a visit from Discover History. We can look forward to a talk featuring fascinating details of the times and no doubt some lively re-enactment. (Will we be up dancing the Charleston ?) Mmm, maybe we’d better behave and stay seated!!

The meeting might be in November but it’s probably near enough to start thinking about Christmas and fun.

The hall has been assessed in terms of health and safety. Numbers are likely to be limited and movement around the hall, following current government advice. Hand sanitisers will be in place. Possibly mask wearing will be advised at certain points, i.e.  when moving through the room. We will not be able to offer refreshments in Sept but let’s hope things will be better by Nov. meeting.
