This is the title of Tim Cornah's talk for us on Thursday 21st November. Our meeting which will start at -2pm - takes place at Clent Parish Hall. DY9 9QT. Parking is to the rear of the hall, or further along Church Ave, towards the bridge. Free entry for members / £4 for visitors. (This includes refreshments) * Tim Cornah, an archaeologist, has been involved in several important digs in the Worcestershire area including one at Hartlebury Castle where Civil War remains were unearthed. At our meeting Tim will be talking about the finds discovered on the dig and what new information has been revealed about that period. * Tim says - In the summer of 2023, we flew a drone over a field next to Hartlebury Castle, Worcestershire, which was garrisoned in the English Civil War, in the 17th Century. How the site was defended at this time was entirely unknown. A crop mark, very indicative of a former Civil War bastion was present during the drone flight. In the last week of July 2023 we excavated a trench across this feature in order to test it. This was the start of an entirely community based project, run by a professional archaeologist on a voluntary basis. ************* A fascinating subject with lots of local interest. We look forward to seeing you there. - PaulTimmins -(Chairman)
