23rd May – The Worcestershire Postal System after 1840

Rowland Hill postage stamp

Thursday 23rd May 8pm
Clent Parish Hall,
Church Avenue

Chris Jackson will be returning to Clent History Society on Thursday 23 May at 8pm, to continue with Part Two of  a talk which covers the fascinating history of our postal service.

We heard Part One in September 2011 and have been waiting since then to hear how things shaped up after 1840. It was at this point Rowland Hill of Kidderminster had the bright idea of introducing postage stamps, most famously the Penny Black, which greatly helped to simplify the business of sending things by post.

You are welcome to join us & to bring any old Penny Blacks which might have slipped down the back of the drawers.
